My great-grandfather Ilya Arkadyevich Vorobei was born in the village  of Listopadovichi (at those time it was Starobin district). He was 16 when the war began. But he was 18 when he joined the army. My great-grandfather was in the rank of staff sergeant. He took part in many battles. He went all over Europe, from Belarus to Berlin. He was awarded orders and medals. Among them the order “Red Star”, medals “For Liberation of Warsaw”, “For Victory over Germany”, “For the capture of Berlin”.

My great-grandfather was a brave warrior. Millions of soldiers were killer during the Great Patriotic war, but my granddad survived.

After the war he worked as a fireman. Great-grandfather had a “golden hands”! He had built the house with his own hands; make furniture and many other things. My great-grandfather was a very kind and hardworking person.

He died in 1990 at the age of 63. I have never seen him, but the memory of him is alive today.
